About Hattie Hasan

Hattie Hasan was born in North East London to first generation Turkish Cypriot parents. Rather than enter an arranged marriage, she studied Psychology at London University and went on to attain a post graduate degree at Reading University. She taught in several inner London schools until 1990 when she retrained as a plumber and started one of the first companies of women plumbers in the UK.
She is an avid supporter of global womens’ and water issues and in 2007 raised £25,000 for empowerment work with women in India. In 2008 she spent time in rural India where she met and stayed with project leaders and empowered women.
Stopcocks Women Plumbers now encompasses self employed female plumbers throughout the UK.
Hattie speaks to schools, colleges and industry about the importance of women in society and as plumbers and supports female students to start their own business.

In 2011 Hattie reached the finals of Inspirational Woman of The Year Award. The result is to be announced 30th September.
She lives in rural Yorkshire with her partner and their dog.
